More competition in Georgetown-New York route

…as JetBlue set to begin Guyana service in April

The New York-based carrier, JetBlue, will begin to operate direct flights between Guyana and New York in April 2020.
According to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the airline is well into its preparatory stages.
JetBlue on Tuesday said that tickets for flights which are slated to commence on April 2, 2020, are already on sale in the United States (US).
The non-stop flight will travel from New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport to Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on a daily basis with the carrier’s new A321neo aircraft.
Speaking with Guyana Times International, Director General of Guyana’s Aviation Authority, Egbert Field said that the airline, though yet to file its application, ought to be lauded for its due diligence as it contacted them prior to making the big announcement.
“Yesterday (Monday) they called and I had a discussion with them and they are very happy and want to come to Guyana,” he explained.
The Director was keen to note that JetBlue is currently in the process of registering their business locally. When this is completed, the airline’s next step would be to approach the GCAA to iron out the “technical” aspect of the process.
“Things are on stream for the April commencement of operations. The timeline is a good timeline because it gives them time to register their business here, look for the necessary facilities and also to make their application to us so we can begin the process,” Field asserted.
With this new service, passengers will enjoy five hours of travel time between the two countries. Guyana will be the fourth country in South America JetBlue serves in the coming months. Presently, the airline services almost 40 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
“Guyana service introduces a diverse and underserved destination to the JetBlue route map which will benefit both leisure travellers, as well as those visiting friends and relatives,” the Director of Route Planning, Andrea Lusso posited.
The Director was happy to no te that Guyana will be benefitting from low travel fares but high-quality service.

The A321neo – the newest aircraft type to join JetBlue’s growing fleet of more than 250 aircraft – boasts a 20 per cent increase in fuel efficiency which supports some 500 nautical miles of extended range. The longer-range flying capabilities of the A321neo open up a host of new markets which JetBlue’s existing fleet could not serve with nonstop flights, including recently announced service between New York-JFK and Guayaquil, Ecuador, launching this December. Additionally, each JetBlue Airbus A321neo will be powered by two Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, which produce a smaller noise footprint and lower operating costs when compared with today’s engines.
Inside the aircraft, JetBlue’s award-winning comfort and connectivity will be the focus of the onboard customer experience. The A321neo will feature the Collins Meridian seat – which is the widest seat available for the single-aisle Airbus family of aircraft – with enhanced cushion comfort, adjustable headrests, power connections at every seat and the most legroom in coach.
Inflight entertainment will be powered by Thales AVANT and ViaSat-2 connectivity. With this system – featuring 10.1 inch, 1080P high definition screens, more than 100 channels of live television with DVR-like pause and rewind functionality, picture-in-picture function and more – JetBlue will offer customers expanded entertainment choices in nearly every region the airline flies.
